Scum’s Take on Fake Love

Hello everyone and here’s another random blog for you guys to read!

You must be wondering why I would be blogging about the anime called Kuzu no Honkai or the English title Scums Wish. This anime had mixed reviews mostly with people commenting on how messed up the relationship between the characters and how messed up the characters are period.

But please don’t leave I swear it’s for a good reason, well maybe.

After hearing BTS’s song called Fake Love, the anime Scum’s Wish or Kuzu no Honkai came into my mind. It’s not one of my recommended anime’s to watch for everyone but hearing and understanding the lyrics of the song made me realize the similarity between the anime and the lyrics. I’ll be writing down the lyrics of the song Fake Love and putting my input and understanding on how it relates to the anime.

We won’t be focusing on all the relationships that are found on the anime. I’ll be in fact focusing on only one and it would be Hanabi Yasuraoka and Sanae Ebato.

And here it goes.

Note: I am not a big kpop fan so please, but I do listen to a few songs from BTS, TWICE, EXO, and MONSTA X. If you do have any songs or kpop bands to recommend me then feel free to do so!

For you, I
Could pretend like I was happy when I was sad
For you, I
Could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt
I wish love was perfect as love itself
I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden
I grew a flower that can’t be bloomed
In a dream that can’t come true

At the intro it talks about pretending, making their own ideal vision on how perfect their love was, the ideology on love itself. Ecchan fell in love with Hanabi after her generous act of helping her from being molested on the day of their entrance exams and happened to apply for the same school. Ecchan wanted to show her gratitude and in the end becoming close friends with Hanabi.

I wanna be a good man just for you
I gave the world just for you
I changed everything just for you
But I dunno me, who are you?
The forest just for us, you weren’t there
The route I took, I forgot
I even became quite unsure of who I was
Try babbling into the mirror, who the heck are you?

Although Hanabi didn’t feel the same, Ecchan started to develop strong romantic feelings towards Hanabi and began to have a more sexual relationship because of Hanabi’s lost and mixed feelings of her surroundings and ended up getting caught in Ecchan’s web.

Love you so bad Love you so bad
Mold a pretty lie for you
Love it’s so mad Love it’s so mad

Love you so bad Love you so bad
Mold a pretty lie for you
Love it’s so mad Love it’s so mad
Try to erase myself and make me your doll

This one is another for Ecchan, it represents Ecchan for me because of how caring she was fo Hanabi, being always there for her and allowing Hanabi to use her for her own pleasure and desire which ends up to deteriorate their friendship slowly. When their sexual relationship began Hanabi started having mixed feelings of guilt for using Ecchan and in the process, but Ecchan didn’t mind being used, until she finally realized what the right thing to do is.

Why you sad? I don’t know I don’t know
Smile, say “I love you”
Look at me, even I gave up on myself
Even you can’t understand me
You say I’m unfamiliar, changed into the one you used to like
You say I’m not myself which you knew well
No? What do you mean no, I’m blind
Love? What the heck is love, it’s all fake love

Their sexual relationship finally came into an end once Ecchan finally realized the importance of herself, they had a short break of not speaking to one another causing Hanabi to feel lonesome since she was the only friend she had. But at the end they finally spoke to one another, Ecchan had a change of hairstyle and thus the quote “New hair New Me” would fit perfectly for this one, and became the best of friends once again.

This is my take of finding Kuzu no Honkai fitting the song quite well with the relationship between Ecchan and Hanabi. It’s not an anime I would recommend to everyone but if you’re interested in watching the different views, or the messed up ideals of love then go ahead.

I hope you liked today’s post! Yes it was a double post surprise! I hope you guys kpopenjoyed it and come again next time~

Back Street Girls: Gokudolls

A group of 3 yakuza failed their boss for the last time. After messing up an important job, the boss gives them 2 choices: Honorably committing suicide, or go to Thailand to get a sex reassignment surgery in order to become “female” idols. After a gruesome year-long training to become idols, they successfully debut, with overwhelming popularity, much to their dismay. This is where their tragedy truly begins.

Here is the ED LINK!

My Opinion

The Ending is called “Hoshi no Katachi” performed by Gokudolls Nijigumi. Another cute music performed by Gokudolls Nijigumi, the music for the ED was as well catchy like the OP, but unlike the OP it’s more of a calming type of idol music for me.

I can’t say I’m as amazed as the visuals just like the first one, it’s just your kind of ending that mainly shows the credits and on the side is some cinematic previews of the anime scenarios that will happen. It’s nothing special, I would most likely skip this in my honesty.

The ED was nothing special, except the music was well made and calming to listen. I would give it a better review but the ED didn’t quite catch my attention in visual basis, but overall pretty okay, I guess.

That’s all for today’s post, I know it’s short but I’ll make it up to you in my next post where I will be reviewing my first impression for the anime itself.

See you next time!

My Opinion

I’ve never heard this anime from my friends but saw it through scrolling around to see which are the upcomming anime’s for Summer 2018 and seeing this one caught me by surprise. Yakuza men turning into female pop idols? Count me in. I found the story of this very unique and seeing some clips I could already tell there would be a lot of meme-worthy scenes from it’s comedic scenarios and I as well can’t say no to that.

“It’s about the three yakuzas who were forced to become idols by sexual alteration surgery to atone their failure.”

Now towards the OP. The OP is called 「Gokudolls Music」 by Gokudolls Nijigumi. The OP consist of elements of being a cute idol with all the singing and dancing movements and the bright and cheerful background and colors, and as well as being part of a Yakuza showing their bosses and as well as them as men wearing the idol uniforms which I honestly found funny to watch.

The song and beat was quite catchy and they were able to make the OP look hilariously funny yet depressing and scary at the same time when you realized who those ‘girls’ are.

I find it funny already and I can’t wait to start watching the anime itself seeing some funny and memeable points already seen in the OP. I hope you enjoyed today’s Anime OP review and stay tuned for the next one. I will be doing an Anime ED review and the full episode review of this anime as well so make sure to look forward for that.

See you next time!

Happy Sugar Life – EP 01! The Sugar Girl Eats Love!

Happy Sugar Life

High-schooler Matsuzaka Satou has a reputation for being easy, but one day her lifestyle of sleeping with one boy after another comes to an end. It happens when she meets the child Shio, for whom she is convinced she feels true love for the first time. Satou may seem sweet and innocent, but there is nothing she won’t do to protect their life together, including committing murder. But from where did she acquire the little girl, and how long can their “Happy Sugar Life” together last?

Episode 1: The Sugar Girl Eats Love

At the first few seconds of the episode it shows both characters Satou and Shio nearby a pit of fire. It doesn’t really explain what happened in the scenario, but we could tell from her expression and words how she finally realized how love felt like at that scenario.

Now I wonder what happened at that moment.

We are introduce to Satou, a student that’s known for fooling around with different guys, which was also acknowledge by her friend. In this part she explain to her friend how she also decided to stop fooling around and flirting with other guys since she’s already found someone that she loves.

Cue surprised reaction of her friend.

And cue to her mentioning that she lives with the person she loved.

If the word spreads out that she lived with a man or what the friend thought it would create a scandal in her school. Well if the friend does keep her mouth shut. It continuous on getting to know Satou, showing how she’s working part time to earn more money, how she lives alone with Shio without any adult supervision.

Suspicious right?

Look at that adorable expression waiting by your doorstep, of course you gotta love the cuteness of Shio just waiting for Satou to come home. Her pure and innocent expression just makes me want to nom her cheeks, but back to the review. I could see why Satou would have fallen for Shio, because of her innocent and pure thoughts at that very moment, and not to mention their nightly routine of their vow and promise.

In sickness and in health,
through happiness and sadness,
for richer, for poorer,
I promise to love you, Satou-chan,
until death do us part.

It’s one of the sweetest vow’s you’ll every hear from a child, and from how it appears this is Satou’s way of calming herself down after a long day of work, and her worries. Even though it seems perfect at the moment, she is well aware of the utilities they need in order to survive such as food, utilities, furniture, and clothes. At least she knows the responsibilities she has to do in order for them to live, since from what it looks like she has no support from any of her family or whatsoever.

Oh all those expenses.

Satou then decided to get a new job for her to get more money for their living expenses. It was her first day of the job and of course Shio’s worried that Satou would be coming late home late and miss her, of course being alone at home does feel rather sad. Of course Shio is well aware that she’s working hard for both of them and reassured Satou that she’d be alright.

On her first day of the job you could tell how hard she was working, complimenting her new manager and co workers, Oh little does she know. That was until one of the workers, Mitsuboshi, confessed to her, she did tell him that she had someone else that she loved and can’t reciprocate his feelings towards her.

Of course the other workers heard about it and asked her about it.

What’s that I see? The manager listening in their conversation? Hmmm. I wonder why.

At the end of the day while Satou was hurrying to get home she found Mitsuboshi heading his way inside the manager’s room. And to their surprise, that was the last time Mitsuboshi came back to work.

The manager started on asking Satou to work double shifts causing her to come home late day by day because of their shortage of staffs and hoping she would take responsibility for his work. One night, one of the other staffs warned her to follow what the manager says.

It continued on for a while and you could tell how Satou was slowly getting the hint that the manager was doing it on purpose. It showed how she would come home late and Shio would just be there waiting and falling asleep as she waited for her to come home.

This can’t go on.

Satou was slowly loosing her sanity and eventually go crazy.

The next day she received her payment and wondered how her payment didn’t match with her work hours, telling the manager there was a mistake. The manager told her that that there was no mistake, and in the end she revealed her true colors and how she was envious of how Satou was grabbing the attention of everyone and since she caused trouble in her manager’s love kingdom where they should be worshiping her instead of Satou, she decided to cut her pay.

And she lost it.

Satou confronted the manager about how she caught her taking Mitsuboshi, and how she shouldn’t be going for underage kids. Of course the manager defended herself , but in the end Satou caught her red handed with a video recording in her phone with the manager admitting her nasty deeds.

So bitter. So bitter. So bitter..

That’s what would go on Satou’s mind. She found the idea of love coming from the manager bitter. As she got home she was welcomed by Shio and everything just went better.

She was finally home and well with Shio, she felt happy and more relaxed at this point. She did have her own worries and thoughts on how she has never felt love like this way before, saying that it was different.

Shio-chan gave me the gift of love.

In the end of the episode you see her walking inside a room that’s dark and has a heavy atmosphere, you could tell this was where her sins for her love had started. And it cuts off to the part of a young boy putting up posters of missing signs with the face of the one and only adorable Shio Kobe.

Hello, happy sugar life.

One important detail I should mention is that I’ve seen and read the manga way before they announced it was releasing an animation series. I was shocked and surprise seeing the first preview from my friend who recommended me to try out watching this Anime knowing my preference for Cute Psychological type of story and design.

Characters

As I’ve mentioned above, I’ve already seen and read the manga. The art style and design of the characters aren’t that different from the manga and anime itself, but seeing it come to life with color made it look more alive and just satisfying to watch come in play. I love how it didn’t differ from how I expected it to look like, it still has that cute and adorable art style with it’s dark and psychotic vibe into it.

One of my guilty pleasures in anime would be how it is designed, and how I imagined for the characters to be designed lived up to this anime! I love how their innocent art style combats the dark sinful side for each character, I mostly love how Satō is designed, maybe because I have a thing for pink haired characters but I certainly love how her eyes would change from a normal state to where her pupils would enlarge showing their dark and sadistic side, not only for her but for the other characters as well.

Storyline

I’ve heard comments on how they’ve been comparing this anime to another anime called Kozu no Honkai or Scum’s Wish, having it’s similarity to how each character have a different perception on how love is and how they handle their own feelings when it comes to love, and the different resorts they have to go through.

Here in the anime we’ll mostly be focusing on Satō’s idea of love, which is said in the introduction of it’s fandom website, “She vows to protect that feeling of love, even if it means committing murder.” We’ll be seeing on how her love for her sweet Shio and how she dangerously handles the obstacles and troubles she had to go through.

But it doesn’t only end there.

We’ll be seeing different perspectives of love from each character. It doesn’t only revolve around Satō which is what I like, you get to know the different character’s perspective of love, even though in the end Satō will get involve in between as well.

Overall

I do highly recommend giving this a try if you have spare time in your hands. I can’t wait to start watching the series and give it a review for all of you. I did just finish my midterms so I have more time in my hands to binge watch up until the recent episode and post a review. I did set my expectations a bit too high for this series just because I did love the manga and I expect the anime to turn out as well as the manga itself.

That’s all for today’s post I hope you enjoyed and thank you for taking the time to read. Be sure to watch out for our next post which would the Episode Review itself, see you all later!

My Opinion

The Ending is named “Sweet Hurt” by ReoNa. When I first heard the Ending song at first I thought the voice sounded famillar, and I did my research and found out she also had a couple of other songs from the anime Sword Art Online which I also liked.

Another one of ReoNa’s work i love is the inserted song in Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online which I will like here if you want to check it out. I actually find the song calming, these are the types of songs that I would just play in the background when I study or have something to do.

The Ending for me was pretty simple, it’s designed as Satō walking as she grows up revealing the memories as she gets older, and that’s when Shio comes in, instead of walking they start skipping for joy showing how much joy Shio has brought to Satō’s life. Unlike the OP it was simple and honestly I prefer it that way.

It was still beautifully made and you can understand the concept of the ending as well. The ending doesn’t really represent the dark side of the anime, but the brighter side to Satō’s feelings and her dream of a happily ever after with her dear beloved Shio.

That’s all for today’s post, I know it’s short but I’ll make it up to you in my next post where I will be reviewing my first impression for the anime itself.

See you next time!

My Opinion

I’ve read the manga and has been one of the updated readers up until now, and hearing that it had it’s own anime made me really pleased and excited. It’s basically a series that revolves around Satō Matsuzaka a high school students who claims to have fallen in love with a young girl named Shio Kōbe who’s unaware of her past. Satō vows to protect that feeling of love, even if it means her committing crime.

Now back to the opening itself.  The Opening is called “One Room Sugar Life” by Akari Nanawo. In the opening I love how sweet and bubbly it felt like, as it shows the two doing their vows and promise, along with it being twisted and creepy, showing the dark and twisted sins that Satō committed to protect her sweet pure love. They did a great job showing and representing on what the anime would be about.

The opening was actually sang by Akari Nanawo. There’s been a few comments saying how the opening sounded like Vocaloid,  fun fact is that Akari Nanawo sang two songs composed by the Vocaloid producer Neru which could be the reason why she sounds familiar to a few Vocaloid fans.

The opening itself was beautifully made, the art was made well, the music was overall great as well matching the theme of pure sweetness and the dark twisted side of the story. I love how they portrayed the dark psychotic concept of the manga well.

So far I’m amazed to how the anime is shown, and I can’t wait to watch the anime itself after reviewing this. I hope you enjoyed today’s Anime OP review and stay tuned for the next one. I will be doing a full episode review of this anime as well as the ED so come back for that.

See you next time!
